UCF’s Institute of Simulation and Training (IST), working through the UCF Foundation and our Central Florida educational partners, seeks to encourage young students to be inspired by and pursue careers in aviation. Our interactive UCF STEM Aviation Showcase will feature flight simulators from mobile devices to high-end 4 degrees of freedom units as well as drones. The showcase will feature messages a wide range of pilots and aviation leaders promoting aviation as a career choice. IST is developing a traveling outreach showcase to introduce, educate, and inspire young people about aviation and the many career opportunities it offers. Through this mobile outreach and showcase, IST hopes to reach underserved populations who might not otherwise be exposed to aviation and see themselves as future pilots and thereby, encourage a more diverse group of students to pursue aviation. The showcase will be featured through our partnerships such as Orange County Public Schools, The Cade Museum, and others as either a physical or virtual exhibit (health and safety conditions and policies will influence the setting). The ultimate goal is to foster interest and excitement about aviation and create a more diverse pipeline and workforce.

The My Sports Pulse project combines mobile and web technologies, STEM education, and a sports theme to create an innovative approach to bolstering understanding and interest in science and mathematics fields. Students can register with the My Sports Pulse program to receive questions, presented within the context of sports scenarios, about subjects such as physics, nutrition, algebra or geometry. Questions are delivered through text messages or email, and can also be accessed and answered directly through the My Sports Pulse website. As students answer questions, they earn points in various knowledge areas and build up their own avatar to compete with other students and schools.
The My Sports Pulse program has been piloted with several schools inside and outside of the US, with promising results. We are constantly exploring new types of STEM challenges and delivery methods to expand and refine the program. For more information, including how to sign up or become a sponsor, please visit the My Sports Pulse website.
